Jacob's Story
Jacob’s life changed suddenly when he unexpectedly lost his father, the person he had always lived with. With no family able to take him in and no residential option available through the Michelle P. Waiver, Jacob was left without a home and facing an uncertain future.
With the help of his case manager and support team, Jacob was able to find an apartment of his own. He had never lived alone and had to start completely from scratch. His community came together to help furnish his apartment, build a safe home, and support him through this major transition.
Jacob’s Community Living Supports and Homemaking services quickly became critical lifelines. These supports help him stay safe, manage his home, build independence, and remain connected to his community.
Jacob has not only survived this loss and transition, he has thrived. He has built friendships, attends several social groups, and has created a life he is proud of. When asked what he loves most about his life, Jacob says it is his support team and his sister.
A 4% cut may sound small on paper, but for Jacob, it threatens the services that make it possible for him to live safely and independently in his own home.
